In addition to including a range of special guests and iterations of the main characters, Deadpool & Wolverine make the most of the MCU’s universe. Though it was never utilized, previously submitted concept art for the movie suggested a different version that would have combined Deadpool and Wolverine. The artwork shows what “Wolverinepool” would have looked like if he had made the cut. Concept artist David Masson posted some concept drawings for proposed Deadpool and Wolverine variants on Instagram. A combination of Deadpool and Wolverine’s attributes was one of those discarded versions of both characters. The design “didn’t make the cut, unfortunately,” Masson said in the caption, suggesting Wolverinepool, Deadverine, and Wolverine as potential titles for the variation. Regardless, below is a view of the mash-up variation.
Masson disclosed another variation design that was never deployed. Known as Punkpool, this figure combined Wade Wilson’s Deadpool outfit with the look of Spider-Punk, who is portrayed by Daniel Kaluuya in the Spider-Verse series. There wasn’t much space for more, but it’s still a clever idea that may have been entertaining to watch on the big screen. Other Logan concepts apparently existed, but they were not used in the movie. For example, there was a suggestion to cast Danny DeVito as a scaled-down version of Wolverine. It appears that Marvel Studios may investigate the multiverse more because the movie has been such a success. In addition to the impending Avengers sequels, there’s a potential that Deadpool may receive a fourth feature, possibly with Wolverine returning. It’s impossible to predict what further variations may emerge in the future as the MCU continues to explore its cosmos, so concepts like Deadpool-verine might come to pass. One of the greatest releases in movie history, Deadpool & Wolverine broke box office records and was a huge hit. The movie has surpassed 2019’s Joker to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, breaking a number of records in the process. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige expressed his appreciation to the fans for helping to make the tremendous achievement a reality in a social media statement he posted in celebration of the announcement.
