Deadpool and Wolverine would receive a crude popcorn bucket, as Ryan Reynolds had promised, and he has obviously kept his word. With Reynolds sharing a highly provocative video, the movie’s popcorn bucket has been officially unveiled. The popcorn bucket appears to be shaped like Wolverine’s head in the video. It’s affixed to a bucket with the words “Designed by Deadpool.” In the footage, Deadpool can be seen pouring popcorn into Wolverine’s open mouth from above before adding some liquid butter. As Reynolds put it, “Years from now they will look back at 2024 as when the War of the Popcorn Buckets began.” in reference to the popcorn bucket revelation.
At CinemaCon, Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, had previously stated that Deadpool and Wolverine would receive a popcorn bucket that was “intentionally crude and lewd.” Additionally, Reynolds hinted, saying, “Wait till you see the Deadpool popcorn bucket.” This was mostly a reaction to the viral sandworm popcorn bucket from Dune: Part Two. Although it wasn’t intentional in that instance, a lot of moviegoers thought the sandworm’s mouth looked like an adult toy, which sparked a ton of memes and backlash on social media.
Chief Content Officer Elizabeth Frank of AMC Theaters remarked of creating tie-in popcorn buckets for movies, “It… makes the movies more fun,” adding that the reception to the Dune: Part Two one was surprising, according to Variety. It’s similar like wearing a T-shirt home from a concert. It exudes a great deal of creative energy. We’re still learning and developing. The Dune thing would never have occurred to us. If we had known it would be praised or derided, we never would have made it.” Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will return in Deadpool & Wolverine, where they will portray the respective title roles. Under Shawn Levy’s direction, the two embark on an adventure across the cosmos, along with several significant appearances from previous Marvel and X-Men films. Reynolds recently revealed that Rob McElhenney will make a cameo, but he didn’t specify the role or the details of the sequence.
