Marvel Studios’ Blade, featuring Mahershala Ali as the lead, has experienced several delays since its announcement. However, Ali remains optimistic about the project’s future. During an interview with EW about his upcoming movie on Netflix, Leave the World Behind, Ali shared a promising update on Blade, stating that they are working on it and he is encouraged by the direction of the project. While he couldn’t provide specific details, Ali expressed confidence that they would be back in action soon.
Initially announced in 2019 without a release date or director, Blade faced further setbacks when director Bassam Tariq left the project shortly after setting a release date of November 3, 2023 at San Diego Comic-Con in 2022. Lovecraft Country director Yann Demange was then chosen to take over directing duties, resulting in a delay to September 2024. However, due to the Hollywood writers’ strike and subsequent reshuffling of Marvel’s schedule, Blade’s release date has been pushed further to November 7, 2025.
Despite the delays, the team behind Blade is working tirelessly to bring the project to life. With multiple drafts and screenwriters involved, including Michael Green, known for his work on Logan and Alien: Covenant, the film is gradually taking shape. Alongside Mahershala Ali, the movie is reportedly set to star Aaron Pierre, Delroy Lindo, and Mia Goth, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project.
While waiting for Blade, fans caught a glimpse of Mahershala Ali’s portrayal of the character in a voice cameo during the post-credits scene of Eternals in 2021. Ali’s upcoming project, Leave the World Behind, can also be anticipated, as it is set to premiere on Netflix in the near future. Despite the challenges and delays faced, Ali’s sincere encouragement and the dedication of the team involved in Blade provide hope that the movie will be worth the wait for fans of the franchise.
