With a far worse Rotten Tomatoes rating than the majority of MCU films, Venom: The Last Dance marks the conclusion of Sony’s live-action Venom trilogy. As the highest-grossing films in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, the Venom films have undoubtedly left an influence on mainstream audiences despite not being well received by critics. The stakes are raised for the titular anti-hero and his whole universe when Knull and Klyntar are introduced in Venom: The Last Dance. That, however, is insufficient to ensure a favorable critical reaction. Venom: The Last Dance, the last film in the Venom trilogy, opens with a 37% initial Rotten Tomatoes rating. The average score of 78.5% for the MCU is 41.5 percentage points higher than Venom: The Last Dance’s 37% Tomatometer. With Venom at 30% and Venom: Let There Be Carnage at 57%, Venom: The Last Dance is ranked second in the Venom trilogy.
Venom: The Last Dance’s Rotten Tomatoes rating isn’t particularly shocking because it doesn’t deviate from the pattern of the first two films. Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Venom: The Last Dance differ by 20 percentage points, yet the complaints of both sequels are quite similar: excessive action, an unfocused storyline, and a lack of real stakes. Additionally, Venom: The Last Dance doesn’t provide anything novel to the superhero genre, which is essential in a field that is becoming more and more saturated. Venom 4 would probably get a similar score if Venom: The Last Dance became a sequel. Venom: The Last Dance’s 37% Critics Score isn’t a major issue for the movie, even if it would have helped the Venom trilogy and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe to have a high Rotten Tomatoes score. Venom: Let There Be Carnage scored an 84% Popcornmeter, while Venom scored an 80% Popcornmeter. As a result, mainstream audiences are quite likely to give Venom: The Last Dance a similar rating. Simply said, the Venom trilogy tends to favor casual viewers and ardent fans over reviewers. Venom: The Last Dance also has a budget of about $120 million, which is relatively simple to equal at the box office. Venom: Let There Be Carnage made $506 million on a budget of about $110 million, whereas Venom made $856 million on a budget of about $100 million. Venom: The Last Dance is a clear box office triumph since it is very possible that its global receipts will fall between those of its two predecessors.
