The Disney+ limited series Secret Invasion’s director Ali Selim explained why it should be considered as a stand-alone narrative inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Selim, who spoke with Screen Rant, Secret Invasion was intended to be a “self-contained six episode unit” rather than anything that would serve as a springboard for other MCU productions. Selim said, “I worked very hard with Jonathan Schwartz, Alana Williams, Kevin Feige, and Louis D’Esposito to make sure that this tale could stand alone and delight an audience in and of itself, because my wife she’s going to see the story and enjoy it. He did, however, acknowledge that Secret Invasion does have “some hanging threads at the end that could become something really exciting and I’m glad that we were able to weave that in, but I can’t tell you what they are sure.”
Although Selim may think that Secret Invasion will be a stand-alone entry in the MCU, two of the show’s actors undoubtedly disagree with him. Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine’s alter ego James “Rhodey” Rhodes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, confirmed that the Disney+ miniseries will immediately follow the forthcoming Armour Wars film back in January 2023. It is a banana! At the time, he described Secret Invasion as “very expansive.” Naturally, everyone may now appear in everyone else’s tale. I mean, I’m in Sam Jackson’s show because I’m in Secret Invasion. That serves as the catalyst for some of what occurs in Armour Wars.
Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, has hinted, as recently as May 2023, that the Secret Invasion events “ought to happen so that The Marvels may happen. These items are all interconnected in an intriguing way. Jackson will reprise his role as Fury in The Marvels, a follow-up to the Ms. Marvel television series and the 2019 blockbuster Captain Marvel. The Marvels and Secret Invasion’s relationship is still unknown.
Following Nick Fury as he “learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls,” a species of green extraterrestrials that originally appeared in Captain Marvel, Secret Invasion is based on the well-known 2008 Marvel Comics tale of the same name. Gravik, the commander of the band of radicalised Skrulls, is portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir, while Pagon, his deputy, is portrayed by Killian Scott. The series also stars Ben Mendelsohn, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Richard Dormer, and Samuel Adewunmi.
