Disney has finally confirmed the identity of the gender-swapped supervillain in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, “The Marvels,” also known as “Captain Marvel 2.” Zawe Ashton’s role in the movie has been shrouded in mystery until now. The press kit for “The Marvels” reveals that Ashton will be playing the character Dar-Benn, a Kree revolutionary.
Ashton’s involvement with the film was first teased during the D23 event in 2022 when footage showed her character wielding a hammer similar to Lee Pace’s Ronan, who appeared in “Captain Marvel.” The first public trailer for the film confirmed that Ashton’s character is affiliated with the Kree and is seen brandishing a Universal Weapon given to all Kree Accusers.

Fans were left wondering about Ashton’s villain until the release of the press kit, which confirmed that she will be playing Dar-Benn, a character adapted from the comics. Dar-Benn was a general of the Kree who overthrew the then-Emperor of the Kree Empire with the help of his co-conspirator Ael-Dan. Foulup’s death was framed as an assassination done by the Skrulls.
It’s likely that Daniel Ings’ character, Ty-Rone, will be taking the place of Ael-Dan in the film. The pair seem to be presented as a team, and it’s hinted that they will be working together towards a common goal.

One aspect of the plot that may be explored in the film is Dar-Benn’s attempt to take over the Kree Empire in the aftermath of Carol Danvers’ actions in “Captain Marvel.” With the Supreme Intelligence deposed, a power vacuum has been created, and Dar-Benn may be looking to fill it.
The confirmation of Ashton’s role in “The Marvels” has sparked excitement among fans of the MCU. While the character of Dar-Benn is a minor villain from the comics, her backstory seems ripe for exploration in the MCU. Fans will be able to see Ashton’s performance as Dar-Benn when “The Marvels” hits theaters on November 10.
