Disney chief is certain about Deadpool & Wolverine, dismisses ‘Fatigue’ in the MCU

Disney rejects the notion that superhero moviegoers are “fatigued” with them and instead thinks that the problem may be more number than quality. Disney CEO Bob Iger reportedly discussed the downturn of recent superhero films. This would contain the two latest blockbusters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Iger refuted the notion that “audience fatigue” was the cause of the crisis while discussing it at a Morgan Stanley conference on Tuesday. He said that it was “not an accident” that the first 33 MCU films had made close to $30 billion at the box office. Following that, he made the prediction that Deadpool & Wolverine “will be one of the more successful Marvel movies we’ve had in a long time,” and he went on to discuss Disney’s policy of cutting production and prioritising quality over quantity.

Iger stated, “Many people mistakenly believe that there is audience fatigue when in fact there isn’t.” “They’re looking for excellent films. And there are innumerable instances of people coming if you construct it well. Some belong to us, while some don’t. One prime illustration of such is Oppenheimer. Simply amazing movie.” “Focus is really important,” Iger went on. We lowered Marvel’s output—the amount of films and TV series they produce—and that really started to get problematic, but I’m happy with the group. Regarding the IP we’re creating, I feel happy. I discussed several of the projects in detail. Really, we look years ahead. It is also iterative.

Disney executives are particularly pleased about other planned releases, which Bob Iger mentioned. He also identified the animation follow-ups to Moana and Inside Out, in addition to Deadpool and Wolverine and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Regarding streaming, Iger also mentioned an agreement in progress to release Taylor Swift’s 2023 concert video on Disney+ in April. Disney will keep a close eye on the development of the films that are now in development in the meantime. As Iger put it, “You look at every aspect of the process, not just the movies you’re making; you look at the directors, the people getting cast, the scripts. I personally watch movies three to five times with the team and just create a culture of excellence and respect which is really important with the creative community.” “And once more, the results speak for themselves.”
