Disney has officially confirmed the length of the next film, The Marvels, which will officially establish a new record for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With an official length of one hour and forty-five minutes, the Captain Marvel sequel will surpass the combined record of one hour and fifty-two minutes held by The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World as the shortest MCU film ever produced. The revelation from Disney also confirms insider claims regarding the runtime, which is 19 minutes shorter than that of Captain Marvel (2 hours and 4 minutes). The run-in to The Marvels’ big screen debut hasn’t been smooth thus far. Online reviews of the upcoming sequel and star Brie Larson, who will return as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel, have been received, adding credence to the rumours that she is “disillusioned” with the role. In the press, co-star Samuel L. Jackson, who is back as Nick Fury in The Marvels, has been supporting Larson and the female-led picture, labelling detractors “incels” and praising the action and plot of the impending tentpole.
With over $1.13 billion in international ticket sales after its 2019 debut, Captain Marvel became a box office revelation, thus The Marvels has a lot to live up to compared to its predecessor. Although The Marvels’ first three days of domestic box office receipts pale in comparison to the original, the sequel is still expected to bring in between $70 million and $80 million domestically. Disney has stated that The Marvels, directed by Nia DaCosta, was produced on a $275 million total budget. In the film The Marvels, Larson co-stars with Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau, a S.A.B.E.R. astronaut, and Iman Vellani, who returns as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. The movie will follow the group as they explore a wormhole connected to the Kree. But when they look into it, the three of them keep experiencing unexpected power shifts, which makes them question why it continues occurring. In a hint to what fans might anticipate from the course of The Marvels’ narrative, Jackson hinted that Larson is one of the three Captain Marvels in the MCU. Park Seo-Jon plays Prince Yan, Carol’s spouse, in the movie as well. The Marvels, which has a PG-13 rating, will follow Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as the third Phase Five release of the year. Captain Marvel will make her MCU debut for the first time since Avengers: Endgame in this film, which is set after the events of Secret Invasion.
