As the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series takes shape, Disney finally confirms the official release window for Agatha: Darkhold Diaries. Disney has confirmed that Darkhold Diaries will be among the Disney+ MCU series that premiere in 2024, along with Echo and X-Men 97, according to reports. Disney promised fans that the WandaVision spinoff is a part of Phase Five despite not disclosing the exact day Darkhold Diaries would debut in a press release. In addition to being retitled as Darkhold Diaries, the miniseries that follows the formidable witch Agatha Harkness has seen several title changes in the past. Its original release window was originally scheduled to run from 2023 to 2024. When Darkhold Diaries’ development was confirmed in 2021, it was known as House of Harkness. The following year, the title was changed to Coven of Chaos. But this past September, Coven of Chaos changed its name to Darkhold Diaries, and there have been rumours that Disney changed the show’s title repeatedly as part of a bigger internal plan.
Kathryn Hahn plays Wanda Maximoff’s nosy neighbour and the show’s titular witch in Darkhold Diaries. This past summer, Hahn teased that the miniseries is “delicious” and showed her affection for the lead character. Hahn co-stars with Aubrey Plaza, who debuts in the MCU as Rio Vidal, an Agatha’s coven witch. Furthermore, Debra Jo Rupp plays Sharon Davis, and Joe Locke plays Billy Kaplan, a well-known gay teenager with a dark sense of humour. An updated synopsis of Darkhold Diaries claims that Agatha will not possess her powers in the MCU series. “Watch Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) finally break out of a spell she has been trapped in” is the description of the series premiere. She is eager to return to her previous murderous ways but realises she is helpless.” In an attempt to regain her powers, Agatha will need to form unlikely alliances along the road. After a mixed bag of results for the most recent Disney+ series, including She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Secret Invasion, which were criticised as major failures but received positive reviews, Darkhold Diaries will attempt to turn things around for the MCU.
