Disney+’s Daredevil reboot: image disproves Thanos blip hypothesis

Spread MCU News

As Marvel Studios’ Daredevil prepares for its comeback on Disney+, many fans have speculated about the character’s fate during the Blip, the period between the snap in Avengers: Infinity War and the Avengers’ reversal in Avengers: Endgame. However, recent set photos seem to debunk a popular fan theory.

According to the theory, Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, may have been spared by Thanos’ snap, which would have placed the upcoming series during the Blip. However, new set photos from Daredevil: Born Again show the series lead, Charlie Cox, in character as Matt Murdock, walking past a church with a sign that displays the date as March 15, 2020. This real-world evidence seems to indicate that the series takes place after the Blip.

Further investigation by BlindWanda on Twitter shows that the real-life church’s bulletin board hasn’t been updated since March 15, 2020, despite the Google Maps Street View photo being captured in August 2021. With this real-world evidence in mind, it appears that the theory of Daredevil being Blipped away is no longer plausible.

While it’s unclear whether the original Daredevil series from Netflix is part of the established MCU canon, the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ is being touted as its own thing, perhaps a reboot. This means that it’s still unclear how the Blip would have affected Daredevil’s characters. It’s possible that Wilson Fisk/Kingpin may have been Blipped, which could explain his loss of power and control of his city. In Hawkeye, Kingpin is shown to be operating out of an old warehouse and using the lower-grade Tracksuit Mafia as his enforcers. This seems to imply that his criminal empire is no longer as strong as it once was.

As for other characters, like Foggy Nelson and Karen Page, it remains to be seen what their status was during the five years between 2018 and 2023. It’s unclear whether they will even appear in Daredevil: Born Again.

Vincent D’onofrio, who plays Kingpin in the series, has commented on his character’s status after the Blip, stating that the large-scale disruption hurt his criminal empire. It’s likely that Fisk’s return to power will be covered in-depth in his upcoming appearances in Echo and Daredevil: Born Again.

Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again is slated to drop on Disney+ sometime in 2024. With its release still a while away, fans can continue to speculate on how the Blip might have affected Daredevil’s characters, and how their stories will play out in this highly anticipated reboot.
