Even while Echo received positive reviews and positive reviews from viewers at its much-anticipated premiere, it leaves an unwelcome early mark for Marvel Cinematic Universe series. After its release on January 9, Echo has received a critical rating of 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the second-worst-rated MCU Disney+ TV programme ever at the time of writing. Even with a “fresh” rating of 53% on Rotten Tomatoes, only the first Phase Five series in the MCU, Secret Invasion, has a worse score than Echo. After seeing the Disney+ title early on, audiences have awarded Echo a somewhat higher score of 75%. Echo received a lot of positive reviews from critics before to the show’s debut, and this positive sentiment has persisted once the Hawkeye spinoff’s five episodes debuted concurrently. According to Kaiya Shunyata, a critic on RogerEbert.com, “Something has clicked here.” It seems as though the heart that was taken out of the MCU after Avengers: Endgame has gradually seeped back into the bones of a series attempting to start over, despite its shortened runtime.” The series’ portrayal of Native Americans and its intense action have won accolades from other critics as well. Others, however, have taken issue with Echo’s sluggish characterization and growth. Sophie Butcher of Empire Magazine described the programme as “inconsistently paced” and “lacking in character development.”

The first programme to air under the Marvel Spotlight label is Echo, which departs from the MCU’s big-budget format in favour of “grounded, character-driven” storytelling in its television shows and motion pictures. In the programme, which stars Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez/Echo and Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Maya travels back to her Oklahoman homeland to learn more about her ancestry and make connections with her relatives. But after their intense fight at the end of Hawkeye, Kingpin finds out her old Tracksuit Mafia henchwoman, and the two reluctantly team together to defeat a shared foe. Maya is referred to as the “villain” of the Echo series even though she is the primary protagonist because she finds it difficult to forgive the evil things she did while she was Kingpin’s ally. There are also references to the future Daredevil: Born Again MCU series in the programme. A recent trailer for the series hinted to a significant confrontation between Daredevil and Echo, which elicited conflicting reactions from viewers. It is anticipated that Maya will appear in Born Again, as Echo has direct ties to the future programme.
