The actor Emma Stone, who starred in the Amazing Spider-Man film, was taken aback to discover that an early draft of Spider-Man: No Way Home featured her character, Gwen Stacy. During a conversation with Phase Zero podcast at the Poor Things red carpet premiere, the actor learned about the cancelled cameo. “Oh my god. Is that accurate? It was unexpected of Stone to ask, and she added that Marvel had never contacted her about the possibility of starring in the superhero film in 2021. “I’ve never heard of that previously. This is fantastic. This is an important time. I appreciate you telling me.”
Numerous Spider-Man characters, including Stone’s Gwen Stacy, were rumoured to appear in No Way Home. The book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios revealed that Gwen Stacy, along with Kirsten Dunst’s Mary Jane Watson and Sally Field’s Aunt May, was included in an early draft of the No Way Home script, even though she didn’t end up appearing in it. Screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers of No Way Home claim that concerns about the three characters going overboard with their cameos led to their eventual removal from the film. Although Stone was taken aback to discover that Gwen Stacy was in the script, she had already acknowledged that she had heard speculations that she would feature in Spider-Man: No Way Home. “I am aware of those rumours. I’m not involved; I’m not sure if I’m supposed to say anything. “I’m not sure how you’re expected to react as a former student,” Stone said to MTV News prior to the movie’s premiere.
No Way Home, which is directed by Jon Watts, follows Peter Parker as he seeks Doctor Strange’s assistance to conceal his identity after Mysterio revealed it to the public in Far From Home. But when Strange casts a spell gone wrong, characters from other multiverses—including Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, and Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock—enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire made appearances as their respective Spider-Men. No Way Home, which brought in $1.92 billion worldwide, was a huge box office hit for Marvel and Sony. At Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, a fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man is presently in development. Although Spider-Man 4’s story is still being developed, it is expected to take place after the events of No Way Home, in which Peter returned to vigilantism while sporting a brand-new, comic book-accurate suit.
