Evangeline Lilly Proposes a Solo Wasp Film

Spread MCU News

Actress Evangeline Lilly, who played the Wasp for years in Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man movies, makes a case for earning her own standalone movie in the MCU. With the release of Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania in a few days, Lilly has been a part of Marvel Studios’ super-powered series for over eight years. The actress’ Marvel heroine has never had a film of her own, despite the fact that the star’s hero has had her own thrilling story throughout that period, including getting to adopt the Wasp name and allegedly delving into some “dark” truths in the upcoming threequel. In spite of this, the MCU actor is prepared to adopt the Wasp costume in a standalone Marvel Studios film.

Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hope van Dyne, hinted that “it could be time” for a “Wasp standalone feature” when speaking to the media on the red carpet at the Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania event. The MCU actor revealed she was “making her pitch” in an interview with Variety, adding that she is prepared for her own super-powered blockbuster:

“I’m going to make the case that a Hope [van Dyne] spin-off might be in order. for a standalone Wasp movie. Do we concur? Anybody? Just once? Two trips?”

In addition, Lilly discussed what it’s been like for so long to be a member of the MCU, saying that she feels like “an Avengers senior”:

“We came out on stage at CCXP, the Brazil Comic-Con, and something clicked, and I suddenly realised, “I’ve become an Avengers senior.” Like how I’ve advanced from junior to senior status.”

The actress bemoaned how, “when [she] first came into the cosmos,” she and her co-stars felt like “the new kids on the street;” While today, with the release of Quantumania in Phase 5, the Ant-Man family is at the focus of the franchise:

“And that was kind of cool because when we first entered the universe, Black Widow, Iron Man, Captain America, and all the original gangsters had already established themselves. And we were similarly striving to earn our stripes as those new kids on the block. And all of a sudden, Phase 5’s launch point is in the centre, and it feels really cool.”

There isn’t currently a stand-alone Wasp movie in development at Marvel Studios, at least not publicly. That, however, might all alter at the drop of a hat the size of Kevin Feige. Since quite some time, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man has gotten the better of Evangeline Lilly. So why not give in to the actress’s desire for a single adventure and make it happen? The character is fantastic and could benefit from an adventure apart from the other members of the van Dyne family and Rudd’s Scott Lang. Of course, everything would have to fit into the larger narrative being told throughout the Multiverse Saga (or possibly beyond), but everything would have to be in service of that. The future? Some people have even questioned if Rudd’s little Avengers would survive the next threequel.Perhaps Lilly could star in her own movie and take Cassie Lang, played by Kathryn Newton, under her physical and figurative wings if Ant-Man met an early death.

But before then, fans may catch Evangeline Lilly in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which hits cinemas on February 17.
