Green Goblin and Doc Ock’s cancelled fight is hinted at in the No Way Home concept art

In recently released concept art from Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Green Goblin played by Willem Dafoe and Doc Ock played by Alfred Molina square off. The Spider-Man: No Way Home – The Art of the Movie, a new tie-in book for the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film, has unique concept art and in-depth interviews with the creative team. The artwork was shared on Twitter. The concept illustration depicts Spider-Man (probably Tom Holland’s version) swinging towards Green Goblin and Doc Ock while they are engaged in combat while still wearing their green masks and armour. The concept art for this discarded scenario depicts a collapsing flyover, indicating that it would have occurred during the introduction of Doc Ock and Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: No Way Home, directed by Jon Watts, centres on Holland’s Peter Parker as he enlists the aid of Doctor Strange to conceal his identity once again after Mysterio exposed it at the conclusion of 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. However, the magic that Strange casts goes wrong, allowing villains from many multiverses to infiltrate the MCU, including Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Molina’s Doc Ock. No Way Home also features the Spider-Men played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, making it the first time all three of Sony’s live-action Spider-Man actors have been on screen together. After collaborating with Dafoe and Molina on Sam Raimi’s 2002–2007 Spider-Man trilogy, Maguire gushed in The Art of the Movie about how “amazing” it was to work with them once more. The actor praised the musicians, saying, “I just adore those guys and respect them as the great talents that they are and also just as lovely humans.” It was so much fun; it seemed like a reunion. Additionally, Maguire described how working with Garfield and Holland as co-stars was “a very rich experience” for him and “kind of reinvigorated [his] interest in performing.”

Holland will star in a fourth Spider-Man movie set in the MCU that Sony and Marvel Studios are presently creating. There have also been rumours about a fourth Spider-Man movie starring Tobey Maguire, albeit that project is still only a rumour as of now. The upcoming flicks Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter, as well as the third installment of the animated Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which the studio just delayed, are all part of Sony’s slate of Marvel films that are not a part of the MCU.
