Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to break records with its runtime. Director James Gunn confirmed on Instagram that the film will be the longest in his MCU trilogy. While he didn’t give an exact runtime, Gunn stated that it will be longer than the first two films in the franchise, which ran for 2 hours and 2 minutes and 2 hours and 17 minutes, respectively.

Fans can expect the third installment to run anywhere between 2 hours and 20 minutes to 2 hours and 30 minutes, which would make it one of the five longest movies in MCU history. It could even surpass recent Phase 4 outings like Eternals and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The extended runtime is necessary for the movie to delve into the deep and impactful plot points that will be explored in this emotional MCU adventure. The film promises to send the team of intergalactic misfits on their most important mission yet, as they try to keep their family together and save the cosmos from disaster. The addition of Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary will add another layer to the story, and the film will also address lingering plot points such as Gamora’s return to the team after Avengers: Endgame, Rocket Raccoon’s tragic backstory, and more.

Fans are hoping that the extended runtime will be in service of a great story, as the excitement and anticipation build for the film’s debut. Gunn will continue to tease new information about Guardians 3 in the weeks leading up to its release, but the official runtime will remain a mystery until late March or early April.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, and based on Gunn’s comments, it promises to be a fitting conclusion to the beloved franchise.
