Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3: A detour from the multiverse in Marvel Studios’ phase 5

Spread MCU News

As Marvel Studios’ Phase 5 continues with its Multiverse Saga, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 takes a detour from the multiverse and focuses on the beloved characters that fans have come to love over the years. The upcoming film is set to send off director James Gunn and the current iteration of the Guardians team, and promises to be an emotional journey for both the characters and the audience.

Despite the absence of multiverse shenanigans, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has its own share of conflicts and challenges. The team, consisting of Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Groot, and Rocket, are settling into life on Knowhere when Rocket’s past comes back to haunt him. The team must band together on a dangerous mission to save Rocket’s life, or risk losing him and possibly even the entire team.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige emphasized that the film is all about the characters and their development, rather than world-building. The first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies were already emotionally charged, with moments that made audiences laugh and cry. This time around, Feige promises that the emotions will run even deeper, with the focus on Rocket’s backstory and the characters’ struggles to keep their family intact.

The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 remains largely unchanged, with Chris Pratt reprising his role as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and Sean Gunn as Kraglin. The film also introduces new characters such as Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary, Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, and Maria Bakalova as Cosmo.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the final chapter for this iteration of the team, as Gunn moves on to work on the upcoming DC film The Suicide Squad. But with the film’s release set for May 5th, fans can expect an emotional and satisfying send-off for the characters they have grown to love over the years. Whether or not the film ties into the larger Multiverse Saga, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 promises to be a thrilling and emotional adventure for both new and old fans alike.
