Henry Cavill talks about the sacrifices he made for Wolverine and Deadpool’s cameo

Henry Cavill debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wolverine in Deadpool, making a fleeting but significant appearance. The actor has dabbled in the superhero genre previously as Superman in the DC Extended Universe, but a return to the DC is now unfeasible, and Cavill may have an intriguing future in the MCU. In a recent Instagram picture, Henry Cavill provided the finest glimpse of his Wolverine. Significant appearances abound in Deadpool & Wolverine; some, like Cavill’s Wolverine, were long-rumored and predicted, but others were a complete surprise. Early in the movie, the actor made a brief but impactful cameo as Deadpool searched the Multiverse for a Wolverine incarnation that could rescue his reality.

Deadpool even had time to suggest that Marvel could treat Cavill better than the studio down the block as he was portraying “The Cavillrine,” an enraged version of Wolverine. Cavill was originally expected to reprise his role as Superman, but that is no longer feasible as James Gunn is relaunching the DC Universe with a new movie. Speaking about his brief appearance, Cavill mentioned another sacrifice he made for the part: his mustache. For this one, I took off the mustache just to be cautious. Only the mustache,” wrote Cavill. This is also a jab at the DC Extended Universe, since the actor gained notoriety for being unable to trim his mustache in time for the 2017 Justice League reshoots while filming Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018). Cavill was ridiculed online for having a CGI upper lip in the movie’s first version. The director of Deadpool & Wolverine, Shawn Levy, gave an explanation of how he convinced Henry Cavill to feature in the movie in a recent interview. Cavill appeared in the movie for two reasons, the director revealed. He said that the actor may only be referred to as the Cavillrine. “If we’re going to talk about him, we must call him by his actual credited name, the Cavillerine, which Ryan coined,” Levy said. “As soon as Ryan used that phrase, I knew it was real. He instantly responded “yes,” knowing it would be amusing and irreverent. A lot of love was also shown for him, his body of work, and his play with his heritage as a DC superhero now that he’s making an appearance as a Marvel superhero.” Since Cavill left DC, fans have been pushing for his inclusion in the MCU, and he had a number of roles to choose from. While some thought Cavill would be a fantastic Captain Britain, others wanted him to play Hyperion. Although it’s unclear at this point if Cavill will continue to play any of them in the MCU, it might lead to other opportunities.
