I’m certain I know what Marvel character Hunter Doohan is portraying in the MCU after seeing Daredevil: Born Again, episode four.

The credits for Daredevil: Born Again episode 4 almost confirm Hunter Doohan’s unknown MCU role. In addition to killing off Foggy Nelson and separating Karen Page from Matt Murdock, Daredevil: Born Again introduces a number of new characters, including as Kirsten McDuffie, BB Urich, Daniel Blake, and Heather Glenn, to Matt Murdock’s MCU mythology. After Foggy’s untimely death, Matt Murdock makes new friends, rekindles old rivalries with villains like Wilson Fisk and Bullseye, and confronts fresh dangers like the deranged criminal Muse and an army of dishonest police officers. Frank Castle, often known as the Punisher, returns in Daredevil: Born Again episode 4, and Muse is introduced. Despite their brief appearance in episode 4, it is obvious that the Punisher and Muse will play a larger part in subsequent episodes. In the source material, Muse in particular appears to be working on a twisted artwork akin to his well-known works. The conclusion of Daredevil: Born Again episode 4 implies that Muse will pose an equal threat to Matt Murdock as Wilson Fisk and Bullseye, even if it doesn’t go into detail about Muse’s identity or ambitions.

Episode 4’s “guest starring” credits feature Hunter Doohan, who portrayed the uncomfortable Bastian in Daredevil: Born Again episode 1. However, in episode 4 of Daredevil: Born Again, Doohan’s Bastian never makes an appearance. Since attending Heather Glenn’s book launch in Daredevil: Born Again episode 2, where Doohan received his first credit, Bastian has not been seen on film in his civilian clothes. In the brief sequence where Bastian first appears on screen in Daredevil: Born Again episode 2, Hunter Doohan is given credit. When the MCU’s Muse is formally established in Daredevil: Born Again episode 4, Doohan is also given credit. In episodes 1 and 3 of Daredevil: Born Again, Doohan is not given credit, and neither Bastian nor Muse make an appearance. It’s obvious that Hunter Doohan is the link between Bastian and Muse, therefore Daredevil: Born Again will eventually prove that they are the same person. Interestingly, Muse is one of the few villains in the Marvel universe whose true identity and origins are entirely unknown. Giving Muse a civilian identity in Daredevil: Born Again would be a unique development for the character’s narrative from Marvel Studios. Given that the MCU’s Muse differs from his comic book counterpart in a number of ways, it makes reasonable that the live-action Muse would have a distinct backstory.
