In an appeal to Marvel, Charlie Cox requested that Daredevil Stuntman return for Born Again.

Chris Brewster, a Daredevil stuntman, says that despite Charlie Cox’s pleading, Disney + has decided against hiring him for Daredevil: Born Again. Brewster, Cox’s longtime stuntman on Netflix’s Daredevil, stated in a recent interview that despite the actor’s best efforts, Disney will not hire Brewster for the reimagined Disney+ programme. Charlie [Cox] “asked them over and over” to bring him back, but he never even received a phone call, according to Brewster. Given that Cox “specifically requests [Brewster] on everything,” it’s possible that the lack of Brewster from the Daredevil programme on Disney+ reflects the producers’ intention to distance their production from the three-season run the character had on Netflix. Disney will introduce Cox’s Devil of Hell’s Kitchen, a Netflix original, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil: Born Again.

Fans and critics alike praised the first Netflix series for its grimy tone. Elden Henson played Foggy Nelson, Deborah Ann Woll played Karen Page, Vincent D’Onofrio played the Kingpin, and Jon Bernthal played Frank Castle/The Punisher in the second season. Daredevil: Born Again is only anticipated to include D’Onofrio and Bernthal. Cox has already appeared in a few appearances since the Netflix series’ conclusion. He portrayed Matt Murdock, Peter Parker’s attorney, in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and he wore his new yellow-and-red Daredevil outfit in the final two episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Both of these performances were distinguished by a change from the melancholy Daredevil introduced by the Netflix series, displaying a far more charming, witty Daredevil. Contrary to its Netflix predecessor, Daredevil: Born Again will apparently place more of an emphasis on courtroom confrontations than merely street clashes.

Disney did not hire virtually any of the original Daredevil cast from Seasons 1-3 aside from Brewster. The stuntman expressed in the same interview his opinion that Disney was “hurting” the character and the programme. If you watch She-Hulk, Daredevil has been made into a cartoon. All of it is animated, and it is ugly,” he observed. With a long history of working with the superhero company, Brewster has contributed to recent programmes including Loki, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and the forthcoming Captain America: Brave New World. This might be an effort by Disney and Marvel Studios to emphasise the distinctions between Born Again and Netflix’s Daredevil, from a brand-new outfit to a tone shift to new, more acrobatic, fast-paced choreography. The Spring 2024 publication of Daredevil: Born Again is scheduled, although the Writers Guild of America (WGA) writers’ strike may cause a delay.
