Aaron Taylor-Johnson of Kraven the Hunter spoke about the extensive preparation he undertook for the part. At his top weight in an interview, Taylor-Johnson weighed 200 pounds, gaining more muscle than ever. He explained how he prepared: “You just grab little things, and they rub off, in some ways, and they come in handy.” Taylor-Johnson also acquired the ability to crawl on all fours when stalking deer in order to better understand “the emotional turmoil and the sense of guilt” associated with hunting. “When you say stuff like ‘I’m the greatest hunter of all time,’ you’ve got to know deep within your being that it’s coming from a place of reality and depth, and feels like it’s possible and plausible,” he said.
Taylor-Johnson’s performance as Kraven the Hunter is among her physically taxing performances. Levi Miller’s Sergei Kravinoff, who would start Kraven looking noticeably leaner than he did in Kick-Ass, was abandoned by his father because he was too frail and lacked a hunting instinct. Later, Kravinoff makes a comeback as Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven, a defender of nature who is not averse to doing harm to humans in the process. Taylor-Johnson spent time with Damian Aspinall, who was characterised as “a punk-anarchist, sort of Kraven-esque character,” to prepare for this element. Notably, Aspinall is recognised for his work to raise the population of larger bamboo lemurs in the wild; nonetheless, his recommendations to abolish all zoos have sparked debate.
Along with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron, Taylor-Johnson’s fourth comic book film is Kraven the Hunter, which follows Kick-Ass. Kraven’s tale, however, will be the longest. Taylor-Johnson has many projects lined up as a member of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), and she has already started tease fans about a potential confrontation with Spider-Man. Taylor-Johnson might also be a part of the rumoured James Bond franchise. Taylor-Johnson, like all other potential Bond actors, has remained silent despite rumours that he had a meeting with Barbara Broccoli earlier this year. He is now favoured, with Henry Cavill, James Norton, and Harris Dickinson trailing him in the current odds. Taylor-Johnson didn’t confirm any participation, but he also didn’t rule it out either out of respect for the two years he spent painstakingly preparing for Kraven.
