During the 2023 Hollywood strikes, work on Daredevil: Born Again was halted, and the film underwent a creative revision. Although Netflix’s Daredevil was officially included to the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon thanks to the creative reset, there’s a chance that certain performers were secretly cut from the next Disney+ series as a result. A Marvel fan said that there had been indications for months that Sandrine Holt will be replaced before set images showed that Ayelet Zurer would be reprising her role as Vanessa Fisk in Daredevil: Born Again. “So in December I noticed Sandrine Holt and Nikki M. James (New Vanessa and Kirsten McDuffie) deleted their Instagram posts announcing their #DaredevilBornAgain casting,” commented user @RayyanTCG in a post on X. Thought it would be insignificant, Sandrine is no longer with us, and it appears they may have written Kirsten McDuffie out as well.” Fans should treat these speculations with a grain of salt until Marvel Studios responds to them, as the business has not yet addressed them.
James was slated to play attorney Kirsten McDuffie, who debuted in Marvel Comics’ 2011 issue of Daredevil . The actor was previously pictured on the Born Again set, filming scenes alongside Charlie Cox, who is back as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. The actor is most recognized for his role as Éponine Thénardier in the 2014 Broadway version of Les Misérables. Although Kirsten McDuffie’s role in the pre-creative reworking of the show was never proven, there have been rumors that she was interested in hiring Murdock for her company. It’s probable that this plot was abandoned since the creative reset brought back Nelson, Murdock and Page as a legal practice. Another option is that James was recast for the role because he was unable to return to finish filming because of a scheduling problem, and Born Again’s production was delayed into 2024 as a result of the strikes.
