Despite their collaboration in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, J.K. Simmons, the actor behind J. Jonah Jameson and Spider-Man, recently disclosed that he has never had a conversation with Tom Holland, the actor behind Spider-Man in the MCU. In response to a question concerning his chemistry with Holland, Simmons stated in an interview that he “only really appeared on screen with Tobey Maguire.” The actor continued, saying, “When I declare I have never met Tom Holland, even people in the media and industry are shocked. We simply didn’t chance to cross paths, even at whatever the most recent premiere I attended.”

Thus, it goes without saying that I adore everything Sam Raimi, Tobey, Kirsten Dunst, and the rest of the group did in those flicks, and my involvement in the most recent version is far smaller’, Simmons added. Having said that, I really like what Jon Watts is doing with it and I really like how they have kept it interesting without really losing sight of what first drew people in to Spider-Man. Regarding his part as Jonah, Simmons mentioned that the character’s baldness in the MCU wasn’t his idea and that he fought against it. The one issue Simmons and the production crew “didn’t a hundred percent see eye to eye on” was how different Jonah was going to be from the comic books and the Sam Raimi trilogy and how much they wanted to evolve him. Simmons had previously discussed Jonah’s baldness in 2020. Simmons continued, saying he assumed Jonah “either lost his hair in the last few years, or he was wearing a hairpiece the whole time” as the compromise.

Tom Holland, a veteran of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, discussed the requirements for him to return to the character for Spider-Man 4 in 2023. He stated at the time that he and Marvel Studios were “actively engaging in conversations” about what it could look like and that it was another matter entirely to find a way to do the Wall-Crawler justice. Holland went on, “I feel very protective over Spider-Man.” “I want to preserve his legacy, and I feel really fortunate that we were able to work on a series that, in my opinion, is quite uncommon—one that became better and more popular with each film. I hereby promise not to create another one just for the pleasure of doing so. It must be worthwhile for the character to invest their time on.”
