James Gunn believes that the Guardians cast may accompany him to DC

James Gunn is now donning two hats, and by any measure, they have extremely large brims. He was announced to co-direct the newly restructured DC Films with Peter Safran around the end of 2022, developing an entirely new slate for the titan of comics. But before any of that gets going, he still needs to finish the eagerly anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 sequel, which seems to be the last of his nearly ten years of producing intergalactic comic book movies for Marvel.

Speaking to Empire in the Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania edition, Gunn says that finishing up Guardians Vol. 3 is “my day job” and that starting to develop a new set of comic book movies at DC Studios is “a very healthy part-time job that’s at least another 40 to 60 hours a week.” While completing Vol. 3 will mark the end of an era for the writer-director, Gunn appears certain that his time working with the actors that brought Marvel’s cosmic jerks to life will continue. He claims, “This cast is like my family.” “I cannot express to you how close Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Zoe Salada, and Karen Gillan are to me. But I also know that I will work with each of those folks separately again. With a chuckle, he continues, “Probably at my other job.”

As of right now, Gunn still has a few months before Guardians Vol. 3 concludes the tale of Peter Quill and company, and it is unclear precisely when his DC slate will be revealed. In either case, it’s going to be a really important year for comic book movies.
