Despite not getting a role in The Amazing Spider-Man, Josh Hutcherson discusses the prospect of entering the MCU as a Spider-Man variation. A number of celebrities were considered to play Peter Parker following the cancellation of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 and Sony’s decision to start working on a remake. The lead actor from Billy Elliot, Josh Hutcherson, and Oppenheimer actor Alden Ehrenreich were among the actors that were considered for the Spider-Man role back then. Ultimately, Andrew Garfield of The Social Network was cast in the title role of The Amazing Spider-Man.
Josh Hutcherson said in an interview that he would be willing to reprise his Spider-Man role in a future Marvel film. Hutcherson adds that he did not receive feedback on his audition and was never told if he was cast or not.
“Growing up, I was an avid admirer of Spider-Man, mostly because of the classic cartoons. But sure, guy, I’d be up for that. I would sling a few webs.”
“In the end, they just hire someone else. Thus, I never did discover why. I also know that I ended up getting Hunger Games around three weeks after I tried out, so everything worked out.”
The MCU’s Spider-Man is unlikely to be replaced anytime soon, but Josh Hutcherson can still portray the webslinger owing to the Marvel universe. Three live-action Spider-Men have previously shared a huge screen together thanks to Spider-Man: No Way Home. Therefore, additional Spider-Man variations from parallel worlds, such as Josh Hutcherson’s Peter Parker, may make appearances in upcoming multiversal MCU films like Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars, if not also in the MCU’s Spider-Man 4 and its successors. For instance, the interdimensional battle in Avengers: Secret Wars may make it possible for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to team up with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parkers once more, although with previously unseen variations from other different universes.
As an alternative, Josh Hutcherson may make a live-action appearance as a Spider-Society member in the animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse stated that Miguel O’Hara and the Spider-Society had recognised all three live-action Spider-Men, while Donald Glover’s Aaron Davis made a cameo as a multiversal prisoner. Josh Hutcherson could instead make a brief cameo as a different Peter Parker from The Amazing Spider-Man since Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, or Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse could further complicate the connection between the MCU’s multiverse and Sony’s Spider-Verse. In Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, Josh Hutcherson’s Spider-Man may also appear alongside Tom Hardy’s Venom, Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven, and Dakota Johnson’s Madame Web. Josh Hutcherson may portray more than one Spider-Man in a future Marvel film, though, including Peter Parker. Hutcherson may also play a different Spider-Person in Venom 3, Avengers: Secret Wars, or Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. He may take over the role of Spider-Man in a live-action adaptation as Kaine Parker or Ben Reilly, for example.
