Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, the third installment of the Ant-Man series, is yet to be released, but it is already making headlines due to its content. Recently, it was revealed that the film’s villain, Kang the Conqueror, and Janet Van Dyne, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, may have had a physical relationship while they were trapped in the Quantum Realm. Fans had already theorized about the possibility of a romance between the two characters, and in a recent interview, the movie’s writer, Jeff Loveness, hinted that the theories could be true.
Janet and Kang worked together to repair the time chair so they could escape the Quantum Realm, but after Janet learned about all the evil things Kang had done in other timelines, she sabotaged the chair and trapped him down there. Loveness talked about how Janet would have had to be around Kang all the time, and alluded that it would be hard for them not to want to be with one another.
However, the writer left the potential relationship between the two a little vague, stating that there is magic in just implying certain aspects of stories rather than coming out and showing the audience. He explained that some things in films happen because they just happen, and every detail does not have to have a backstory or explanation.
Before the release of the film, Michelle Pfeiffer revealed that Janet had a “very rich history with Kang” while she was in the Quantum Realm and that “the Quantum Realm can change a person.” The film itself showed just how much time Janet spent with Kang, and as Loveness said, it is not explicitly stated if the two were romantically involved or not.
It was confirmed that Janet was with Lord Krylar, played by Bill Murray, for at least a little while she was a part of the Freedom Fighters. Since she told Hank that she “had needs,” it is reasonable to theorize that she and Kang may have gotten together.
It is evident that the potential romance between Janet and Kang has left fans curious about the upcoming film. While we cannot be sure if the two characters were romantically involved, Loveness’s comments certainly suggest that it is possible. Fans will have to wait until Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania releases on February 17, 2023, to find out more about Janet and Kang’s relationship.
