Hugh Jackman fans are really excited to see him return to the big screen in Deadpool & Wolverine, but Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel Studios, has stated that he begged Jackman not to play the renowned Wolverine. Feige once tried to talk Jackman out of taking on the part that made him a household celebrity, according to an interview he did. “I said, ‘Let me give you a piece of advice, Hugh,” Feige said. Stay away from returning. With Logan, you had the best conclusion ever. It’s not anything we ought to take back.” Jackman has maintained for years following 2017’s Logan that he had put the claws away and would never return to the role, but he couldn’t resist the chance to collaborate with Ryan Reynolds on a Deadpool film. Many agreed with Feige that it would be strange to see Jackman portray Wolverine again, given how wonderful the character’s arc was in Logan. But Jackman did clarify his reasoning for coming back. “After about an hour of driving, I started to wonder, ‘What do I want to do?'” And I was eager to tackle Deadpool and Wolverine as soon as I posed the subject. It simply seemed right to me. I continued to drive for an additional hour. Couldn’t get it out of her head. After exiting the vehicle, I contacted Ryan Reynolds and said, “Ryan, I’m in if you’ll have me.”

Feige also affirmed that Wolverine and Deadpool won’t affect Logan’s plot or its dramatic conclusion. Feige responded, “Correct,” when asked whether this wouldn’t be the Logan that moviegoers have known in the past. This confirms that Logan from Deadpool & Wolverine is not the same Logan from the 2017 Logan film, but rather a variation from another universe. Although there was conjecture that the movie was set before the events of Logan, many fans had the same suspicions. The way Jackman’s Wolverine wrapped up a 17-year narrative in a melancholy yet valiant way was what set the movie Logan apart. Thankfully, Logan fans don’t need to worry that the actor’s comeback will have an impact on the movie, as Feige and Jackman have both stated. Jackman discussed why Logan won’t be affected by Deadpool and Wolverine in an interview from 2022. Jackman emphasized, “It’s all because of this device they have in the Marvel world of moving around timelines.” We can now return because, well, science says so. I don’t have to alter the Logan chronology, which is something I really cared about. And, I believe, to the supporters as well.”
