Before Bucky Barnes’ MCU comeback in Thunderbolts, Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel Studios, lauds Sebastian Stan’s efforts on The Apprentice. Bucky Barnes joins his own superhero squad in Jake Schreier’s Thunderbolts, fourteen years after Stan made his MCU debut in Captain America: The First Avenger. Sebastian Stan’s remarkable career, which includes roles in films and television series like I, Tonya, The Devil All the Time, and Pam & Tommy, parallels Bucky Barnes’ MCU trajectory. With the highly regarded A Different Man and The Apprentice in 2024, Sebastian Stan advanced his career. Sebastian Stan’s Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-nominated performances in A Different Man and The Apprentice are praised by Kevin Feige in an interview with Vanity Fair. Stan earlier claimed that he was warned not to portray Donald Trump by an unnamed studio CEO because it may “alienate half the country.” See the complete remark from Kevin Feige below:
“To see him winning a Golden Globe for one movie and then being nominated for an Academy Award for another movie in the same year is pretty darn impressive.”
Sebastian Stan might take on simple parts in other movies, or none at all, and rely on his MCU salary. However, Stan has continuously demonstrated the breadth of his acting abilities. The protagonist roles in A distinct Man and The Apprentice are both difficult in many respects, yet they are also very distinct from one another. In order to maintain the imagined lives of two genuine persons with radically different origins and personalities, Stan also underwent significant bodily changes for both parts. Sebastian Stan also walked a tightrope in his roles in The Apprentice and A Different Man. The examination of a guy with neurofibromatosis in A Different guy had the potential of being callous, yet it treated the topic with dignity. Conversely, The Apprentice’s depiction of Donald Trump’s early life ran the risk of appearing like a complete homage, but it allowed room for interpretation. Sebastian Stan’s abilities were crucial to the subtlety of these films, and his nominations for awards demonstrate how well he performed.
Returning to the MCU with another chapter in Bucky Barnes’ journey, Sebastian Stan is portraying a very different character than Edward from A Different Man and Donald Trump from The Apprentice. In Thunderbolts*, Bucky Barnes discovers a new family among his fellow anti-heroes and is likely to gain a fresh perspective on his traumatic history. Bucky will likely leave his position as a congressman early in order to fight again, but after letting go of his Winter Soldier training and developing empathy for similar ex-assassins, he could feel more at ease using his Super Soldier powers.
