It seems that Marvel Studios has undergone some script changes for its upcoming Blade reboot. According to a rumor, Kit Harington’s Black Knight will no longer be involved in the film. Harington’s character made his MCU debut in Eternals, with the film’s post-credits scene setting up his future as the Black Knight. However, the new rumor suggests that Marvel has “cut out” Harington’s role in Blade, which was supposed to tie-in with Eternals.
Insider Jeff Sneider shared the news on John Rocha’s The Hot Mic podcast, revealing that the Blade script has been “leaned and meaned,” with “the fat” being Blade’s Eternals connections and the Black Knight. According to Sneider, the Black Knight is “not really involved in the ‘Blade’ thing anymore,” and Marvel may be recasting a few parts.
While it’s disappointing news for MCU fans who were excited to see Harington reprise his role as the Black Knight, it may be the best move for the Blade reboot. The film has had its fair share of problems, with Marvel delaying the release and bringing on a new director to retool the script. With these changes, keeping the focus solely on Mahershala Ali’s Blade and his vampire hunting may result in a better movie overall.
It’s worth noting that Ali himself has reportedly demanded script changes for Blade, so it’s possible that he had a hand in the decision to cut Harington’s role. However, the question remains: what will happen to the Black Knight and when will he continue his own MCU story?
Overall, the news of Kit Harington’s diminished role in Blade may be disappointing for some fans, but it could ultimately result in a better movie. With Marvel making changes to the script and focusing on Ali’s Blade, the film may finally live up to its potential when it arrives in theaters on September 6, 2024. Only time will tell what other changes Marvel has in store for its expanding MCU.
