Logan director reflects on Deadpool 3 and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine return

Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine will appear in Deadpool 3, the upcoming sequel from Marvel Studios, according to Logan director James Mangold. Mangold acknowledged that there will always be a new Wolverine in an interview with Variety but admitted that there was a part of him that wished Marvel would “let it be” with regards to Logan. Mangold anticipated Marvel to make the most of the adored character despite the studio’s propensity to explore many incarnations of the character, from infant Wolverine to cartoon Wolverine. He emphasized, though, that he doesn’t view the conclusion of a movie like Logan as a sign that it was a success since he sees the character as having completed his own trip.

Hugh Jackman will make a cameo as Logan/Wolverine, marking his formal introduction into the Deadpool franchise, while Ryan Reynolds is slated to reprise his role as Deadpool in the third standalone feature for the Merc with a Mouth. Deadpool 2 already made use of archival footage of Jackman from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. In addition, rumors say that Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, and James Marsden, who played Storm, Jean Grey, and Cyclops, respectively, in the first three X-Men movies, will all reprise their roles. Actors like Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Morena Baccarin, Stefan Kapicic, Rob Delaney, Brianna Hildebrand, Shioli Kutsuna, Emma Corrin, and Matthew Macfadyen add to the ensemble cast of Deadpool 3. The much-awaited sequel, which will be directed by Shawn Levy and written by a group that includes Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, Zeb Wells, Reynolds, and Levy, will hit theatres on May 3, 2024.
