The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been steadily building up to a Multiverse Saga, with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania being the latest addition to this expansive universe. Directed by Peyton Reed, the movie features a post-credits scene that sees Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius in the audience for a presentation by Jonathan Majors’ Victor Timely, who is the fifth leading Variant of Kang.
This scene marks the second interaction between Loki and Kang, the first being in Loki Season 1 when the God of Mischief met He Who Remains. With Kang’s warrior Variant making his presence felt in Ant-Man 3, fans are eagerly anticipating what Loki Season 2 will bring to the table for the Multiverse Saga.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Reed praised Majors’ portrayal of Victor Timely, saying that he loved his “Frederick Douglass hair” and the way he embodied everything from that era in time. He also expressed his excitement at teasing the audience with the idea of meeting a lot of different Variants of Kang in Phase 5.
Reed also spoke with IndieWire, where he confirmed that the scene is directly from Loki Season 2 and praised Majors once again for his portrayal and the look he had for the character. He compared this scene to one from 2015’s Ant-Man that teased Scott Lang’s presence in Captain America: Civil War, saying that it set the tone for all the potentially insane versions of Jonathan that fans would meet along the way.
When Jeff Loveness, the writer for Quantumania, was asked if he had a hand in writing the scene, he only confirmed that there was an “overarching theme” that the Ant-Man team adhered to, rather than anything specific. He did mention that he wrote the mid-credits scene, which teases the next Kang appearance, but he has not yet written for Owen Wilson’s Mobius.
The Multiverse Saga is set to continue in Loki Season 2, with Victor Timely playing a pivotal role alongside Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and Owen Wilson’s Mobius. Rumors suggest that the series will feature a number of different Kang Variants wreaking havoc across the Multiverse, while Loki and Mobius try to figure out exactly what they’re facing.
Ant-Man 3 serves as a stepping stone for everything coming in the Multiverse Saga, setting up future outings like Deadpool 3 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. With Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania currently playing in theaters and Loki Season 2 set to premiere on Disney+ in Summer 2023, Marvel fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
