As the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) gears up for its next phase, fans are eagerly anticipating the next installment of the Avengers series. With the original team disbanded and new heroes emerging, the question of who will lead the Avengers in the upcoming Avengers 5 movie remains unanswered. However, a new theory suggests that the God of Mischief, Loki, may be the one to step up and take on this role.
Loki, who was previously portrayed as the main villain in 2012’s The Avengers, has been undergoing a character transformation in recent years. His redemption arc was explored in his self-titled Disney+ series, and now it seems that he may have a pivotal role in the upcoming Avengers film.
One of the reasons why Loki is being considered as the new leader of the Avengers is his similarity to Tony Stark. Like Tony, Loki has been given a chance to redeem himself, and he is now fighting for the greater good. Furthermore, his storyline in the Disney+ series, which focused on the Multiverse and Kang the Conqueror, is integral to the MCU’s overarching narrative.
Another reason why Loki is a prime candidate for the leader of the Avengers is the theme of self-discovery that runs through the Multiverse Saga. Throughout the various MCU projects, heroes have had to confront their own flaws and limitations in order to evolve into better versions of themselves. Loki’s arc in his Disney+ series saw him facing a version of himself and coming out on the other side as a hero. Similarly, the Thunderbolts, who are set to take center stage in Phase 5, are a group of antiheroes who will also have to overcome their own pasts to become heroes. As a reformed baddie, Loki would be the perfect leader for this team.
While some may argue that Sam Wilson’s Captain America is the most qualified to lead the Avengers into the upcoming Kang Dynasty, Anthony Mackie’s recent comments suggest that this may not be the case. Sam is the only character without superpowers, which could be a disadvantage when facing off against a Thanos-level threat. Additionally, Sam has not dealt with the Multiverse or Kang, which are central to the upcoming Avengers movies. Loki, on the other hand, has been heavily involved in these storylines and is therefore the most qualified to lead the Avengers in this new phase.
It remains to be seen whether Marvel Studios will go in this direction, but if they do, it would be a poetic full-circle moment for Loki. The former villain of The Avengers becoming the lead hero of Avengers 5 would be a fitting end to his redemption arc. Fans will have to wait and see what the future holds for the MCU and the Avengers, but with the second season of Loki set to premiere later this year, we may get some clues about what’s to come.
