Concept art featuring Anya Corazon/Araña and Ezekiel Sims is the focal point of Imogene Chayes’s Madame Web. Anya is seen in her costume in this concept art, which was posted on Chayes’ personal Instagram account. She appears to be posing like she’s flying, with what appear to be white lenses in her mask and black parts of the outfit looking more green. Chayes notes in the description that costume designer Ngila Dickson wanted the suit to be “bold and graphic.” While Chayes claims in the caption of this upload that “Plotting out these intricate style lines on Ezekiel’s suit was a doozy but very satisfying,” Ezekiel appears to be prepared for a battle. Ngila Dickson, the costume designer, intended them to have a binding effect.”

Regarding Ezekiel, director S.J. Clarkson disclosed that the character had a more extensive past, saying, “Tahar Rahim, who plays the character, and I discussed potential ways to include flashbacks for him, but I was like, ‘Hang on, hang on, hang on.'” He’s having a nightmare, and we both have clairvoyance. If I start having flashbacks, how will I deal with them? There is an entire event occurring here.” there felt like “it was going to be a scene of dialogue describing it more,” Clarkson continued, and she didn’t think a moment like that was necessary since Rahim was “so strong as an actor, his conviction in the performance and the psychology of his kind of wrestle with Ezekiel and needing to survive.”

Turning the focus to Madame Web, Anya’s actress Isabela Merced mentioned that the project lacked superhero outfits. These aspects seem insignificant when you’re sufficiently engrossed in the narrative, Merced said. “You’re just asking yourself, what works best for the narrative? “And I think they did it for a reason, you know?” She continued by adding. “This is meant to be a narrative of origin. If we appeared in our suits for more than half the film, it wouldn’t be an origin narrative. It leaves people wanting more, which is what I enjoy about it being a little tease.” Contextually speaking, Clarkson also talked about the reasons Madame Web omitted the origin tales for Anya, Julia Cornwall, and Mattie Frankilin. It would be “a bit greedy to do four origin stories,” the director claimed, adding that this wasn’t really fair.
