Madame Web star explains how she went about getting into her superhero role

It was fascinating for Dakota Johnson to get into character for Madame Web because she is set to release a very different film. The actress, who is well-known for her parts in films like the Fifty Shades trilogy, Suspiria, and Persuasion, talked openly about performing her own stunts in an interview. She is taking her first step into the superhero genre with Sony Pictures’ female-led Madame Web, which is a part of the production company’s Spider-Man Universe. The assignment was thrilling for Johnson, as she admits that she “got to perform a day of stunt driving work, and I’m extremely good at it, it appears!” Johnson gave an explanation.

The actress added, “I mean, I can do some really wild things with a car,” to her explanation of the meaning behind her stunts. I operated an ambulance. I was a taxi driver. With the exception of soaring into the air and out of a building, I drove every scene in the film. Other than that, though, I say, “Tom Cruise, be careful.” In the same interview, Johnson acknowledged that, despite her initial doubts about the part, she was “mystified by her powers” and expressed her desire to “see a young woman whose superpower is her mind.” She said, “I got this script, and I was like, ‘I don’t know about me being a superhero.'” Johnson elaborated on her approach to her heroic persona, saying, “It was really important to me that she’s really human and grounded in reality, and that her life feels like, ‘Oh, I can relate to that.'” “When someone shoots lasers out of their eyes, it might be difficult to relate to them at times. Not for me, really,” she quips. “I obviously do that all the time.”

Madame Web is a character that originates from S.J. Clarkson (Jessica Jones) and is based on paramedic Cassandra Webb (Johnson), who gains the ability to glimpse the future after suffering a terrible accident that almost kills her. The movie comes out ahead of both the much awaited Venom 3 and the impending Kraven the Hunter. It follows Morbius and both Venom movies. Regarding Madame Web’s ties to the Spider-Man Universe, director Clarkson clarified that there are barely any. Director Clarkson stated, “She’s definitely in a standalone world,” and mentioned the advantages of the picture existing apart from the other superhero films in the franchise. Rather than attempting to make the film into something different, I was able to just have free reign and let it be what it needed to be. The ability to take something and give it a new, hopefully unique perspective was, in a way, a gift. The movie has an unprecedented length and is set in 2003—long before Tom Holland’s Spider-Man came around. Among other things, Johnson’s Madame Web is not blind or sick, and she is considerably younger than the figure in the comic book. In addition to Johnson, the superhero movie also stars Emma Roberts and Adam Scott in unspecified roles, Sydney Sweeney as Spider-Woman, Isabela Merced as Araña, and Celeste O’Connor as Spider-Woman.
