Madame Web’s role played by Sydney Sweeney could spell trouble for the MCU

Madame Web is a fascinating character from the Spider-Man comics, with unique abilities that make her a formidable force. She has precognition and extrasensory perception, allowing her to see into the future and sense things that others cannot. In the comics, she has played a crucial role in various storylines, including the “Spider-Verse” event, where she brought together various Spider-People from across different dimensions. Her inclusion in the Spider-Man Universe could open up exciting possibilities for Sony to explore, possibly setting the stage for a crossover with the MCU. If executed correctly, Madame Web could become the linchpin of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and a worthy challenger to the MCU’s dominance.

The potential casting of Sydney Sweeney in Sony’s upcoming film, Madame Web, may have negative implications for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Madame Web is one of the movies planned for release in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which began with Venom. While the titular character is currently absent from the SSU due to a deal between Sony and Marvel Studios that keeps Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU, this arrangement may not be permanent. Fans are hopeful that after the return of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, he may have a chance to redeem himself in a potential sequel. If this were to happen, Garfield’s Spider-Man could be the perfect unifying figure for Sony’s complicated franchise.

In the upcoming film Madame Web, actor Elizabeth Johnson will portray Cassandra Webb, a blind psychic who has the ability to see into the “spider world.” While Johnson’s character could serve as a unifying figure for the SSU, it is actually Sydney Sweeney’s character, Julia Carpenter, who is more important overall. Carpenter is not only Webb’s successor but also the second Spider-Woman, following Jessica Drew’s debut in 1977. The comics have featured other iterations of Spider-Woman, including Mattie Franklin, Gwen Stacy, and Ashley Barton.
