The first teaser for Marvel’s new Disney+ series Echo has the title character facing off against Daredevil, the man without fear. A teaser trailer for Disney UK’s Sky Sports features Maya Lopez, also known as Echo (Alaqua Cox), going up against Daredevil (Charlie Cox) in unarmed fighting. The action scene, which was captured in a single take, shows Echo being overpowered by the blind “Devil of Hell’s Kitchen’s” exceptional martial arts abilities and his trademark twin batons. The clip ends with Daredevil smashing a steel cupboard on Echo, evoking a scene from Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume 1. Echo immediately changes her strategy to using shotguns and pistols to gun him down, but Daredevil’s red and black armoured suit is enough to withstand the bullets. He then uses his acrobatics to wear Echo down. Charlie Cox will play Daredevil once more in his own Disney+ series Daredevil:Born Again, which is scheduled for premiere in January 2025, following a cameo appearance in Echo. In the well adored Netflix series Daredevil, Cox played Matt Murdock first in 2015. After three well-received seasons, the programme was abruptly cancelled, leaving fans confused about when we would see the vigilante lawyer in a mask again. Since then, Daredevil has made his first debut in the MCU in a brief cameo in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. He later made a number of appearances in the Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, donning his iconic comic red and yellow outfit.
On social media, Marvel enthusiasts have been responding to the video. The latest footage features Daredevil back in action, which has some fans thrilled. Some critics are harsher, saying that the combat sequence is unimpressive. You may see a few of the fan replies below.
Echo is the first MCU production with a mature rating and the first project under the newly established Marvel Spotlight label. This banner honours Marvel’s anthology comic book series from 1971, which debuted Spider-Woman and Ghost Rider among other characters. Brad Winderbaum, the Head of Streaming at Marvel, stated, “Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity.” “Our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story, just as comic book fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic.” Vincent Donforrio will return to the programme as Kingpin in addition to Cox and Cox (Charlie). The beginning of Echo explores the lives of Maya Lopez, whose unwavering deeds in New York City ultimately come up with her in her village. She needs to face her history, rediscover her Native American roots, and realise the value of her family and community if she is to go on.
