Marvel has hinted at a forthcoming comic-con event

Marvel fans around the world have been buzzing with excitement after the company’s Editor-in-Chief, C.B. Cebulski, teased the possibility of a Marvel-centric convention event. This news comes after Marvel’s fictional convention, AvengerCon, was introduced in the television series Ms. Marvel, leading fans to wonder if the event will soon become a reality.

AvengerCon was created as a fictional answer to San Diego Comic-Con within the Ms. Marvel universe, featuring exciting Marvel merchandise and in-universe promotional content. Disney even launched a brand new website for the event as part of Ms. Marvel’s marketing. Ms. Marvel head writer Bisha K. Ali has even drafted up an email to Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, suggesting ways they can make AvengerCon a reality in the real world.

Cebulski’s comments at the C2E2 Spider-Man and the Venomverse panel on April 1 gave fans a glimmer of hope that Marvel’s own event could be in the works. However, he also noted that Marvel is currently testing the waters, and it could be a while before a Marvel convention or celebration becomes a reality.

If Marvel’s event does come to fruition, it could directly affect San Diego Comic-Con. Marvel’s expansive collection of content could enable the company to host its own form of Comic-Con-type event someday down the line, leading to the possibility that Marvel Studios could announce its big reveals at their own event instead of San Diego Comic-Con.

The pandemic has already caused Marvel Studios and DC to find ways of releasing their major reveals outside of traditional conventions, such as the massive online showcases of Disney Investor Day and DC FanDome. While Marvel and DC returned to Hall H at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it’s possible that the pandemic served as a reality check for the studios, leading to the potential creation of new and exclusive events for each of them.
