The Blade film starring Mahershala Ali won’t be released anytime soon. In 2019, it was revealed that Ali would play Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The star’s sole subsequent appearance in the franchise is a vocal cameo in Eternals. The Blade movie in the MCU has experienced several delays and backstage problems. After losing its first director, Bassam Tariq, in 2022, and its successor, Yann Demange, in June, the movie is presently without a director. The announced MCU film is now even less likely to happen after a significant upgrade. Marvel has decided to postpone Blade’s initial November 7, 2025 release date indefinitely. Now, Blade’s old setting will host the premiere of Predator: Badlands. Marvel Studios has also set three dates for unnamed MCU movies: February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028. Blade was unlikely to be released on schedule after many delays. The removal of Blade from the MCU’s 2025 schedule, which might lead to the loss of cast members and other things, is Marvel’s ultimate confirmation of what was expected.
Blade’s tardiness is hardly surprising. In 2025, three more MCU movies are slated for release. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is presently in production, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* have wrapped up filming, while Blade still lacks a director and an anticipated release date. Star Mahershala Ali was reportedly becoming irritated with the process and earlier drafts of the film’s screenplay, and the production had already seen several delays and the departure of key cast members. It’s a wise decision for Marvel to postpone the movie in order to get the finest Blade on the big screen. But at 50, Ali isn’t getting any younger, so Marvel could have to recast Blade before his release. Untitled MCU films will be released on February 13 and November 6, 2026. Blade may take that November spot and be postponed by a year. However, Blade may be further delayed because it is not essential to the Multiverse Saga, and Marvel may already have movies for those slots, such as Doctor Strange 3. I think Marvel would have made an announcement if they intended to transfer Blade to any of the studio’s 2026 dates. Rather, it appears more probable that the MCU film will be postponed until May 7, 2027, when Avengers: Secret Wars is released, marking the end of the Multiverse Saga. I worry that Ali, who is 50 years old and has been waiting since 2019 to feature in the Blade movie, may get weary and leave the project. However, Blade’s indefinite postponement is hardly the most startling decision because the character might easily make their debut when the Multiverse Saga is over.
