After being found guilty of assault and harassment, Jonathan Majors was forced to leave the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans of the franchise are curious about what will happen to the MCU going forward and who will play Kang the Conqueror in his stead. On X, a number of fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe voiced their thoughts over Majors’ predicament and proposed a replacement for the beloved character Kang. Following Majors’ dismissal, others speculated about how Marvel would rewrite the Kang tale. One person suggested the Time Variance Authority would take swift action, while another joked that Marvel would utilise the well-known neuralyzer from Men in Black to make people forget the Kang period ever occurred. Regarding possible successors, a user proposed a number of fascinating names, such as Oscar-winning actor Will Smith and Yahya Abdul Mateen II from the Aquaman franchise. Another user suggested that Marvel president Kevin Feige could summon Damson Idris to take the position.
Majors was found guilty on December 18 of third-degree assault and harassment in relation to a domestic altercation that occurred in March involving Grace Jabbari, his ex-girlfriend. After three days of jury deliberations, a New York judge rendered the verdict. Majors will now face a sentence hearing on February 6, 2024. Majors, who portrayed Victor Timely in Loki and Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, among other Kang versions, has a maximum penalty of one year in prison. Following Majors’ imprisonment for the aforementioned incident, fans began to speculate about who would eventually portray Kang in lieu of Majors. Some names that were given included Chukwudi Iwuji, John David Washington, and John Boyega. Boyega, who is well-known for his parts in The Woman King and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, disqualified himself from portraying Kang through X. None of the other actors that have been named have responded to the notion as of yet.
It is unclear if Kang will ever again be a part of the MCU. The next Avengers film was originally titled The Kang Dynasty, but it has reportedly been chosen by Marvel to change the name. Kang was once slated to play a major role in the upcoming two Avengers movies and was expected to take over from Thanos as the MCU’s main antagonist for years to come. Majors’ portrayal of Kang in Quantumania earned positive reviews from both reviewers and viewers. There are reports, nevertheless, that Marvel may decide to pursue Doctor Doom for the major villain role rather than recasting Kang.
