Born in Britain in 2003, actress Yasmeen Fletcher was raised in the United States, where she spent he childhood. The 19-year-old actress is known for her role as Chandra in the Disney Channel film Upside-Down Magic, as well as her two-episode role as Kaitlin in Andi Mack.
Yasmeen Fletcher will play Nakia Bahadir in Ms. Marvel. Nakia is Kamala’s first friend. She’s a teenage girl from a Turkish family with whom Kamala bonded due to having names out of their respective ethnic groups. Given that Fletcher’s background is different from Nakia’s, some controversy surrounded her cast — Nakia is Muslim while Fletcher is a Christian. The actress addressed this concern stating that she hopes her portrayal of Nakia provides proper representation in the MCU.
