The actor Chris Evans has said that while he has no immediate intentions to do so, he would be open to returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers/Captain America. Before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Evans was questioned about his future with the MCU. “Yes, perhaps. Just because it was such a beautiful experience, I won’t ever say never. But I also hold it in the highest regard. I am really pleased of it,” the actor remarked. And like I mentioned, there are moments when I find it hard to believe it actually happened. And I wouldn’t want the bad press if it appeared to be a money grab, didn’t meet expectations, or just didn’t seem to be related to the original product. No time soon, then. Evans initially featured as Steve Rogers/Captain America in the 2011 film Captain America: The initially Avenger; he returned to the character in Marvel’s The Avengers the following year. Before leaving the franchise in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, Evans played The Star Spangled Man 12 times during the 2010s. Josh Keaton provides the voice of Steve Rogers/Captain America in the 2021 animated Disney+ series What If…?, which examines alternative historical periods in the MCU Multiverse.
Since retiring as Captain America, Evans has starred alongside Ana de Armas in the 2019 murder mystery drama Knives Out, the action thriller The Grey Man from 2022, and the romantic adventure comedy Ghosted from 2023. Additionally, he provided the voice of Buzz Lightyear in the Disney/Pixar film Lightyear, which detailed the history of the eponymous Space Ranger. He also appeared in the films Free Guy and Don’t Look Up in notable cameo roles in the year 2021. Future projects for Evans include the Netflix criminal drama Pain Hustlers with Emily Blunt and the holiday action flick Red One starring Dwayne Johnson. Evans’ return to the MCU is uncertain, but Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, who played Captain America, is still present in the shared world. Prior to inheriting the role of Captain America at the conclusion of the 2021 limited series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Wilson served as Falcon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In addition to Danny Ramirez as Joaquin Torres/Falcon, Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley, Shira Haas as Sabra, Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns/Leader, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Captain America: Brave New World will star Mackie’s Sam Wilson. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier writers Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson collaborated on the writing for the planned sequel, which Julius Onah directed. As part of Phase 5 of the MCU, Brave New World will be released in theatres on July 26, 2024. It is now in post-production.
