New set photos from the upcoming Disney+ Daredevil series, Born Again, have given fans a sneak peek into what to expect from the show’s storytelling. The photos reveal that the series will include at least one flashback scene, evidenced by a newspaper prop dated 1999.
The photos also showcase a deli that appears to be set in the ’70s or early ’80s, leading fans to speculate that there may be multiple flashback sequences in the show. Some have even suggested that Michael Gandolfini may be playing a younger Wilson Fisk.
Flashbacks were a staple of the previous Daredevil series on Netflix, which used the device to explore the characters’ pasts and motivations. Through flashbacks, audiences saw how Matt Murdock lost his sight as a child and how Kingpin’s abusive past shaped him into Daredevil’s nemesis.
With the new evidence suggesting that Born Again is a soft reboot of the Netflix series, fans are wondering how the Disney+ flashbacks will differ from those in the original show. Will they change what audiences know of the characters’ childhoods, or will they provide additional context to their histories?
Moreover, as Born Again is now within the MCU, fans are speculating whether the series will reference events from the MCU past in these flashbacks. It’s worth noting that audiences have seen glimpses of the MCU in both the ’70s and ’90s before, and Loki is set to visit the 1970s in its second season later this year.
Despite these questions, it’s great to see that Marvel Studios is using the 18-episode series to further develop Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio’s characters. With Born Again expected to debut on Disney+ in Spring 2024, fans have plenty of time to speculate and anticipate what’s to come.
