According to filmmaker Nia DaCosta of The Marvels, expect some problematic family dynamics. In a recent interview, DaCosta discussed her interest in the issue of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) being an excessive workaholic at the time of Maria Rambeau’s death and how it will be crucial to the rivalry between the two Rambeau sisters (Monica and Monica, played by Teyonah Parris) that will take place in the film. I thought it would be interesting to overlay the history of an alienated family and the tale of my sister onto them,” DaCosta added. Carol is the oldest and the prodigal, followed by Monica, the middle sister, whom Carol had a childhood friendship with and had pledged to see but had never done. The resolution between these two is what interests me more than all the switching things. Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, is described by DaCosta as fitting into the sisterhood dynamic. It will be the super Captain Marvel fan who discovers Danvers’ sensitive spot in the Ms. Marvel series on Disney+. The youngest, Kamala, has never lived with this elder sister but idolises her, according to DaCosta. At the beginning of the movie, Carol seems a little jaded, but Kamala shows her just how magnificent she is.

As Monica Rambeau investigates a Kree-made wormhole in space, prior events from the Marvels films Captain Marvel (2019), WandaVision (2021) and Ms. Marvel (2022) will be intertwined. As a consequence, the three superheroes find themselves trading locations when they use their powers. DaCosta thinks The Marvels can break the trend by having fun while conveying an emotional narrative at the same time, at a time when fans have been expressing superhero weariness with several mediocre Marvel Cinematic Universe entries. “The biggest difference from the other MCU films to date is that it’s really wacky, and silly,” DaCosta said. “The planets we visit in this film are not like any of the MCU’s previous realms. You’ve never seen such bright planets before. The Marvels, directed by DaCosta and co-written by Megan McDonnell, Elissa Karasik, and Iman Vellani, starring Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris, and Iman Vellani. Following the events of Secret Invasion on Disney+, Samuel L. Jackson, repeating his character as Nick Fury, Zawe Ashton, playing the antagonist Dar-Benn, and Park Seo-joon, playing Carol Danvers’ ally, join the group. Lashana Lynch will also make a brief appearance as Maria Rambeau from Captain Marvel.
