In the much awaited sequel Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Sony is preparing for a large ensemble of Spider-People to appear during Miles Morales’ (Shameik Moore) quest. His former ally Spider-Man Noir, portrayed by Nicolas Cage, will not be present this time. Cage claimed that Sony has not contacted him about playing the monochrome Spidey again. Spidey was one of Miles’s most important companions in helping him discover his abilities.

One of the most stunning companions to enter Miles’ reality was Spider-Man Noir, even amid the many distinctive Spiders from other realities. Noir, a version of Peter Parker from a different 1930s reality explored in his own comic book series, wore the trench coat and hat that are typical of a detective in noir crime literature. Cage also enjoyed playing the part, drawing inspiration for his weathered Spider-Man from James Cagney and Humphrey Bogart movies.

However, Cage deferred to Sony when asked if the vigilante would return for the follow-up. Nevertheless, he didn’t completely rule out a comeback because he loved the part so much:

You’d have to ask Sony. I don’t know what’s going on with that. No one’s spoken to me about that. Ask them. I don’t know. I really don’t. I wish they would. I love Spider-Man Noir, too. I think that’s a great character. Spider-Man’s the coolest superhero. And then you combine that with Cagney and Bogart and Edward G. Robinson, come on, it’s a great character.
