Official disclosure of Marvel Studios’ Secret Invasion villains

Spread MCU News

Marvel Studios has officially revealed the main Skrull villain for their upcoming Disney+ series, Secret Invasion. The role of Gravik, the leader of a group of Skrull extremists, will be played by Kingsley Ben-Adir. Gravik and his followers have broken away from the peaceful shape-shifting Skrulls introduced in Captain Marvel, and have been radicalized by the idea of seizing Earth’s resources.

The series, based on the comic book storyline of the same name, sees the Skrulls infiltrating Earth and replacing people in positions of power to take over the planet as their new home. The Skrulls were first introduced in the MCU in Captain Marvel, where they were depicted as friendly. However, Secret Invasion will introduce fans to a whole new side of the iconic alien race.

Vanity Fair recently published new details on the series, which include the revelation that Gravik has set up his base of operations in decommissioned radioactive sites in Russia. Skrulls are more able to withstand radioactivity, which makes these sites ideal for Gravik and his followers. Additionally, the report provides new information about Olivia Colman’s character, Special Agent Sonya Falsworth, who has a past with Nick Fury and will work both with and against him in the series.

The Skrulls’ plan in the comics was to take over Earth as their new home, and it seems likely that this will be the case in the series as well. Gravik and his followers are building a mystery underground device that requires immense power, and they will likely replace people in positions of power to get the resources they need.

The Skrulls are renowned as a race of villains in Marvel Comics, and fans will soon learn that there are both good and bad Skrulls. Gravik’s character serves as the face of the new extremist faction, and the group will seemingly infiltrate humanity to gather certain resources. The tension between the different Skrull factions in the series is said to mirror that of the Cold War, as cultures with significant tensions between groups of people find a corollary in this storyline.

In the comics, Secret Invasion revolved around the mystery of who was actually a Skrull imposter. That will undoubtedly be the case in the streaming series, too, as Gravik’s forces infiltrate Earth. However, things will be quite different without the Avengers involved this time around, except for Don Cheadle’s War Machine. Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross is a potential candidate to be a Skrull imposter, based on his connections to Wakanda and the advanced resources the Skrulls are after.

Overall, Secret Invasion promises to be an exciting addition to the MCU, with the Skrulls taking center stage as the main villains. Fans will finally get to see the darker side of the iconic alien race, and learn more about their motivations and goals. Secret Invasion premieres on June 21, exclusively on Disney+.
