The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been placing more emphasis on magic since since The Infinity Saga’s conclusion and the explosive beginning of The Multiverse Saga. There have been recent reports that suggest a new Strange Academy series with a Wong focus. Here, I’ll discuss potential people that we could encounter and provide some amusing series-related information from our own Alex Perez.
2015 saw the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which featured the MCU’s first appearance of magic. The public didn’t really experience magic until a year later, with the release of Doctor Strange, and ever since then, the magic has been amplified. In actuality, the development and use of magic was the single common thread throughout Phase 4. It shouldn’t be surprising that Marvel Studios wants to see more magic as it has been a prominent theme throughout four different projects, starting with WandaVision.
A Strange Academy-based sitcom is in development, it is said in the most current Tales From The Mod Queue over at Marvel Studios Spoilers on Reddit, and it will centre on Wong and include America Chavez.
This report is especially intriguing given how much attention Wong has recently been receiving. What additional characters would show up in a Strange Academy series, though, is what I started to question after that.
Before we discuss potential cast members for this new series, I have something that our own Alex Perez has asked me to share. He has heard these things about this entire series and its position within the larger MCU from his sources.
Strange Academy, which will tie into other parts of the MCU than the supernatural, is intended to be one of the more significant prequel storylines before The Kang Dynasty.
What Alex has heard has some intriguing information, the first of which is when the series would premiere. The strongest hint, “Leading into The Kang Dynasty,” suggests that, barring more delays, this drama will premiere before May 2, 2025.
Thoughts that this series may debut so soon, though, are startling. If other speculations are to be believed as well, Marvel Studios is hurriedly producing Doctor Strange 3, a sign of the MCU’s rising interest in magic.
The Characters of Strange Academy are
Let’s start with those who are already well-established in the MCU as we evaluate which characters we may see in a Strange Academy series. The series is anticipated to centre on Wong, who is the current Sorcerer Supreme and in control of Kamar Taj, as was indicated in TFTMQ. He is there supervising apprentice sorcerers. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he was precisely where we left him, with the final scene centering on him, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), who was engaged in some simple magic.
Rintrah is the first character that would be great to see return for the series, but there are a few others as well. Multiverse of Madness introduced the green minotaur sorcerer, but he needs to be used much more.
Rintrah would be an ideal addition to the cast with only a few lines and a handful of additional scenes. The younger pupils would be curious about who he is or his background, allowing for a deeper investigation of his history.
Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon), Spider-right-hand Man’s man, would be ideal for this series as well, albeit it would be a long shot. Ned started displaying certain supernatural traits in Spider-Man: No Way Home, including the ability to utilise the sling ring with little effort.
Although Ned doesn’t remember his Spider-Man escapades or his connection with Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker, Marvel Studios may simply come up with a solution to bring him back for a bigger part to explore his magical side. If Marvel and Sony Studios could come to an agreement, that is.
Additionally, this Strange Academy series would be the ideal opportunity to bring Nico Minoru and the Staff of One back. She previously had an appearance in the live-action Marvel’s Runaways series on Hulu, and she has been a regular in comic books for twenty years.
Other teams that Nico Minoru is associated with include A-Force, Masters of Evil, and even Midnight Sons. She has also made an appearance in the video game of the same name, and the latter is said to be in production at Marvel Studios. In the near future, the release of Spider-Man: Freshman Year, which will include Nico’s new appearance, may coincide with her return to live-action television.
Nico’s Staff of One, a potent staff that she uses to cast each spell just once, is the focal point of her magic. With this concept, you have to be more creative with your spells the longer you hold it, which is both intriguing and little irritating.
Many fans would be thrilled to see Lyrica Okano, who played her in the series, return. The Staff of One is first described in the series as a technology that imitates the look of magic. Season three, however, reveals that the staff is actually magic and not technology. To develop as the holder of the staff, she would thus need to attend a school where she may practise her magic.
Another Strange Academy comic book character that could make an appearance in the programme is Magik. Magik is one of the school’s professors in the comics, although for the sake of the programme, he would be more at home as one of Wong‘s students.
Magik, also known as Illyana Rasputina, was formerly a mutant and the sister of Colossus, but while she was imprisoned in Limbo, she developed into a potent sorceress. She can conjure a deadly sword that boosts her energy and disperses magical forces, and she can teleport using stepping discs.
It could be the ideal spot to introduce Brother Voodoo to the MCU and might be rather interesting to introduce him in this series. Jericho Drumm differs from the majority of magicians. He also has superhuman strength, control over fire, the capacity to communicate with spirits, and, oh yeah, spirit possession.
Brother Voodoo is not likely to be a student, but his inclusion in the programme would highlight a distinct kind of magic practised in a different region of the world. Vin has done extensive character research on Nico, Brother Voodoo, and a few other people that could show up in Strange Academy in the Midnight Sons reading guide.
The charm of this story also lies in the fact that there are countless other characters that may simply be incorporated into it.
