Prop teases for Daredevil’s Born Again set what remains for Kingpin?

Spread MCU News

The most recent set shot from Marvel Studios’ forthcoming Daredevil: Born Again series has surfaced online, offering a glimpse into Kingpin’s plot in the Disney+ reimagining. The behind-the-scenes photo, which was posted on X, shows Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk/Kingpin on the front page of a newspaper prop. Kingpin’s political aspirations to become the mayor of New York City are validated by the newspaper headline. In fact, this was alluded to in the last episode of Echo, where the beloved antagonist was shown paying close attention to a news report on the mayoral elections in New York City.

Kingpin makes his third appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil: Born Again. Following the three-year break from Netflix’s Daredevil series, D’Onofrio’s Kingpin makes his MCU début in the Hawkeye miniseries of 2021. In the Disney+ series Echo, he has returned to the legendary villain character, focusing on his complex mentor-mentee relationship with Maya Lopez, played by Alaqua Cox. D’Onofrio has discussed why he believes that portraying Kingpin in the MCU is a far greater experience than he had in the original series. “The only thing that could have held me back would be if I just had to keep on putting on all that weight and keep it on,” said D’Onofrio. “I adore the new methods they’re using to make the bulky, muscular clothes I have to wear. They seem to be functional at last, feel wonderful, and look nice. That is really beneficial since constantly gaining and losing weight is not the healthiest thing in the world. I mean, it’s so much fun that I can’t imagine not playing this part, so long as the powers that be will have me.”

There are still unknowns surrounding the narrative of Daredevil: Born Again. It has been reported that the impending Disney+ resurrection will finally have some links to the original Netflix series, though, following a significant creative reworking of the project. The introduction of Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page and Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson, who weren’t initially in the creative team’s original intentions, is one of these linkages. It was also reported in recent set images that Foggy and Karen will be partnering with Charlie Cox’s character, Matt Murdock/Daredevil, to launch their own legal practice. In fact, this was initially hinted at when Foggy brought up the prospect of reuniting towards the conclusion of Netflix’s Daredevil Season 3. Moon Knight and Loki Season 2 directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead are helming Daredevil: Born Again, while Dario Scardapane of The Punisher is directing the series. In addition to Henson and Woll, it is believed that Wilson Bethel, who portrayed Bullseye or Benjamin Poindexter in Daredevil Season 3, will be playing the same character in the next MCU series. Jon Bernthal had been scheduled to return as Punisher/Frank Castle until the creative change. At this point, it’s unknown if Bernthal’s Marvel Cinematic Universe debut is still a part of the creative team’s revised plan for the resurrection.
