According to Robert Downey Jr., he was concerned that spending more than a decade portraying Tony Stark/Iron Man might limit his capacity to take on other roles. When questioned about the dangers of playing the same role for more than ten years, Downey Jr. said, “You start to wonder if a muscle you have hasn’t atrophied.” When asked if he was worried about how 11 years of playing Iron Man had affected his acting, Downey Jr. responded, “Yes. The guard remarked, “Robert Downey Jr. was there last night, and they were driving all different kinds of supercars.” In Washington, DC, Captain America: Brave New World is now in production. Anthony Mackie plays the title character in the film, assuming the identity of Captain America. Given that the actor has shied away from inquiries regarding his participation in prior interviews, it is unknown if Downey Jr. would reprise his role as Iron Man in the movie.
