The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is known for its star-studded casts, and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is no exception. Among the growing ensemble of actors is Nathan Fillion, who will make his first appearance in the MCU in the highly anticipated threequel.
Fillion has an impressive resume in both movies and TV shows, including Firefly, Castle, and Saving Private Ryan. In the superhero world, he is best known for lending his voice to DC hero Green Lantern in animated movies such as Justice League: Doom and Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox.
The recent release of a new promo for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 unveiled a brief first look at Fillion’s live-action MCU debut. The teaser showed Fillion in what appears to be a prison, but it is unknown if he is portraying a prisoner or one of its guards.
This isn’t Fillion’s first experience as an MCU character, as he previously lent his voice to an alien inmate in the Klyn in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie in 2014. Interestingly, James Gunn, the director of both Guardians of the Galaxy movies, confirmed that Fillion was originally going to appear as Simon Williams aka Wonder Man in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but the scene was ultimately left on the cutting room floor.
Despite being relegated to a minor role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Fillion’s willingness to be part of the Marvel franchise is a promising sign. There is still a chance that the Firefly actor has a memorable part in the movie, as his unnamed character seems to be present during the intense battle where the Guardians clash against the High Evolutionary’s forces. It remains to be seen if he is an ally or an enemy, but it’s possible he’s the latter due to being stunned by one of the MCU heroes.
The MCU has a history of actors portraying two roles, such as Gemma Chan (Sersi and Minn-Erva) and Michelle Yeoh (Ogord and Ying Nan). If all goes according to plan, Fillion could join that list and return to a larger role in a future Marvel project.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set to premiere in theaters on Friday, May 5. Fillion’s appearance in the MCU is highly anticipated, and fans are excited to see what his character will bring to the movie. Despite his minor role, Fillion’s inclusion in the MCU is a testament to his impressive career and his ability to captivate audiences.
