Vincent D’Onofrio, the star of the Disney+ series Born Again, replied to a fan’s joke on X regarding earlier statements he made about its possibilities. Retweeting D’Onofrio’s prior statements regarding Born Again, including the line “We all have a lot to look forward too,” the fan in question claimed his remarks “aged poorly” amid rumours of a creative rewrite behind the scenes. “Unless you really know what’s going [on], there’s a chance you could be wrong about this statement,” D’Onofrio said when the fan first called him out. He emphasised that the Born Again cast and crew will produce the finest possible series and urged the fan to “have some trust” as things develop.

D’Onofrio will return to the part of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, a ruthless businessman and criminal boss who sets aside his conflicts with Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) to defend the people of New York but encounters relics from his past. Later on, the fan emphasised to D’Onofrio that he was “just going off reports/my personal feelings about this weird new era of television.” In reaction, D’Onofrio expressed sympathy but argued that the news wasn’t unusual considering his involvement in “every cool project” and that “it’s just reported on these days as if it’s big news.” It isn’t.

On October 11, word spread that Born Again underwent a significant creative shift as a result of the departure of the show’s lead writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman during production and the release of the directors for its next episodes. The output left Marvel CEO Kevin Feige and the studio unhappy, even though less than half of Born Again’s 18 episodes had been shot to far. As a result, Feige believed a restart was required. The behind-the-scenes look at Born Again is indicative of a purported change in strategy by Disney+ officials regarding the creation of MCU episodes following the record-breaking troubles of Secret Invasion, even as the quest for new storytellers and headgear to finish production continues. Since its inception, Born Again has had several setbacks and controversy. Due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in July, production was halted, causing a disappointing but expected release update amid many Marvel schedule adjustments. Additionally, fans have had conflicting reactions to the recently reported recasting of Vanessa Fisk, who was formerly played by Ayelet Zurer in Netflix’s Daredevil. Instead, Sandrine Holt will take on the character. Even the creator of the three-season Netflix series Daredevil, Steven DeKnight, criticised Disney for separating Born Again from it.
