Surprisingly, Robert Downey Jr. is willing to reprise his role as Iron Man/Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite the character’s demise in Avengers: Endgame, this is the case. In an interview with fellow Oscar winner Jodie Foster for Variety’s “Actors on Actors” section, the Oscar-winning actor made this revelation. “It’s just crazy in my DNA,” said Downey when asked if he would play Tony Stark again. Despite the fact that he is far cooler than I am, this character is probably the closest like myself that I have ever played. I’ve grown quite receptive to the notion.”
“It really is crazy because we look pretty good,” he continued. In reality, I was glancing over the stills we were shooting to check if we still looked somewhat okay. I think, “We seem to be in good shape.”
“It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am.”
The last installment of the Infinity Saga, Avengers: Endgame, marked Downey’s spectacular departure from the MCU in 2019. Fans are optimistic that RDJ’s comeback is imminent given the MCU’s metamorphosis into the Multiverse Saga and its examination of parallel universes in Marvel films and TV series. He made a suggestion in an April interview that Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel Studios, could have given the following notion for Tony Stark’s MCU comeback: “Never, ever wager against Kevin Feige, as I usually say. He’ll triumph every time.” “Downey wasn’t the most obvious choice, but he understood what makes the character tick,” director Jon Favreau said of the original casting of Downey as Iron Man’s lead character. He discovered a great deal of himself in “Tony Stark.” Favreau was adamant on hiring Downey because he thought he would provide Iron Man with a main actor who could raise the bar and pique audiences’ curiosity, much as Johnny Depp did for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Downey had to put on more than 20 pounds (9 kg) of muscle in just five months to play the part of someone who “had the power to forge iron.”
